One of the most serious problems one could face, Pythagoras once said at the dawn of philosophy, is: expressing the evident. Supposedly lying in front of us, the evident must possess a complex degree of invisibility and it is obscure, therefore difficult to be grasped.
Today we know we have to hide the evident with all types of smokescreens, colors, and deceptions so that it does not overwhelm us with a crushing simplicity.
However the evident is not universal, evidently. It varies from eye to eye, but for the same reason it could lie before the eyes of some and that don’t want to see it, like the blindest of the blind.
Certainly, the evident would slice us into two; becoming only accessible by means of playful circumstances and odd ruses. In order for the evident to assume shape it has to be tricked, like Proteus, who disguised himself in his own deceptions.
In “Was sehen Sie auf dem Bild?” Lalo Gomes questions the public about the evident, using a group of related images which they are invited to describe through the basic exercise of “Bildbeschreibung/Bildinterpretation”, aiming to provoke an open debate between him and the public based on the different opinions, visions, associations and knowledge both could have regarding the topic of discussion.
Lalo will attempt to hold this talk in German (a language he only recently acquired, but some English is also valid) as a formal gesture to get closer to and in line with the audience.
